There are basically 3 types of skin testing that can be done.
Multi-Test Method of Allergy Testing
This method is a very convenient form of Prick Testing where a set of 8 substance extracts are tested at the same time by introducing them into the very top layer of the skin using the Multi-test device. This can be done on the forearm, or in small children, the back. This method is useful as a quick allergy screening test, and is good to use in very small children. The pain from this testing is minimal. If needed, the results of these tests can then be verified using the SET method on the upper outer arm.
SET TESTING
Serial Dilution Endpoint Titration or SET testing is an accurate method for testing inhalants such as dusts, molds, pets, trees, weeds, and grasses. It is far more accurate than either a blood test or the older scratch test. The method allows us to determine the weakest concentration of an allergen to which your body reacts. It is not used for either chemical or food sensitivities. The goal is to train your immune system to tolerate the allergens at full strength.

Multiple Dilution Intracutaneous Testing
Multiple Dilution Therapy can be compared to immunization therapy used to combat measles or hepatitis. By giving you weak dilutions of a food or substance that you are sensitive to, we may provide your body with temporary protection from a specific allergen. This type of treatment is used for food or chemical sensitivities. Testing helps to determine the allergen and the strength of the dilution needed for treatment.
MULTIPLE DILUTION INTRACUTANEOUS TESTING
Depending on which of these three methods are used, the results may be used to either begin once a week allergy shots in the office, or self-administered home therapy with shots or drops placed under the tongue (sublingual therapy).
